John 1:10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.
Jesus
stepped into the world that He had created, and the world did not realize He
was God in the flesh. The world spoken of in this verse is not the ground,
trees, and physical elements; it refers to the people of the world. The primary
usage of the word "world" throughout John's gospel is humans. Christ
Jesus was God that became a human being who dwelled on the earth (John 1:14).
We could say that the world (the People) did not recognize its creator. There
has never been a human being on this earth that God failed to reveal Himself to
(Romans 1:18). However, unbelievers reject the revelation from God and go so
far as to suppress it. It is a sad situation in human depravity because it
denies the love of a creator that wants all people to come to Christ Jesus (1
Timothy 2:4) and know eternal life. The opposite of eternal life is death;
there is nothing between life and death; we either have eternal life or eternal
death.
No
one has ever been born or will ever live on this earth that God does not desire
to know salvation and eternal life. God brings about the grace that goes before
the decisions of humans. God's grace is there for all to reach out and take
before accepting Christ, no matter what has occurred in one's life. The notion
that there might be someone that has never heard of Christ Jesus is false. God
has shown Himself through nature from the world's creation (Romans1:19-20).
Christ
Jesus is the one true light that shines into the world, there have been humans
that thought they were the light, but they were only flickers. Jesus brought a
divine illumination that drives out the darkness of sin and unbelief to the
world. We cannot attain eternal life through the false light of a human being;
it can only come through Jesus. His sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary is the
only escape from eternal death and darkness.
Many reject the light and refuse to enter it (John 3:19-21). These lost
souls will live this life and the life to come in darkness because they refused
to accept Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior. The saddest part is some
prefer the darkness of the world over the light of Christ Jesus (John 8:12; 9:5).
