John 14:24-26 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. "All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Giving a lost person the Bible is akin to giving a person that is not an aeronautical engineer the plans to build a 747 and asking them to build that airplane. The Holy Spirit of God is the power, the only power, that can make the Bible come alive (1 Corinthians 2:14). This verse of scripture (John 14:24-26) assures us that the Holy Spirit will bring to life what Jesus has to tell us in the Holy Word of God.
The Holy Spirit of God empowered the hearts, souls, and minds of the Apostles to lead them to produce what we know today as the New Testament. God’s Holy Spirit does the same thing for us today, brings to life the words that we read and study from God’s Word. We cannot understand or remember something that we have never read or heard. Our jobs in the here and now is to read and study the Holy Word of God and His Holy Spirit will convey it to our recollection when we need it. There will be times that we have a Bible question in our minds and during our Bible study time, personal or cooperative, the answer to that question will be brought to our recollection. Just because we have a question does not mean that God will bring about an answer in our time, it will always be in His time.
God can see ahead of time as we know it, He knows when and where we need the answer to our dilemmas. We might think that we want to have our questions answered right now, but God knows much better than we do. As a reminder of an earlier statement in this commentary, we will never understand or grasp anything unless we have read or heard it. We can view our daily Bible study as a treasure hunt, the Bible is certainly full of treasure, but unless we dig for it, we will never uncover the riches God has planned for us.
God’s Holy Spirit does not disclose and make known new things in the minds, hearts, and souls of believers, He brings to our remembrance old things. The Holy Spirit will not let us know if we should buy the red car or the green car, but He will let us know how to live our lives that would be pleasing in the sight of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. The Holy Spirit will show us the way to live our lives in a manner that would reflect the Light of Christ Jesus to a lost, dark, and dying world.
