Bible Verse of the Day Wednesday June 22nd, 2022

Proverbs 3:31-32 Do not envy the violent or choose any of their ways. For the Lord detests the perverse but takes the upright into his confidence.

Many today in this country are desperate for a solution to the storm of violence that rages in our schools, churches, entertainment venues, and businesses. This verse reminds us of a message of great importance from God. God led the writer of this proverb to teach us not to consider any person as a leader who bases their values on violence. Solomon (The writer of Proverbs), the Son of the Bible’s most famous warrior, realized this better than anyone. However, the Son of the most powerful in heaven and on earth portrayed it best: ‘Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called children of God.” (Matthew 5:9). King Solomon followed the example of His father David in leaving instructions to his Son Rehoboam to be a fair and just ruler of Israel.

This verse reminds the world not to desire to follow after the person that gains prosperity, wealth, and power through means of violence and taking advantage of other people. God is telling us not to envy the power of a violent person because happiness is so far out of their reach, they will never attain it. Instead, God asks us what advantage it would be to us to gain the whole world and lose our souls (Matthew 16:26). We will make the best decision when we choose the “better part,” and it will not be taken away from us.

Luke 10:42, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

The “better part” is choosing Christ Jesus and His ways, which will be with us for eternity. Living a satisfying life in God is only possible if Christ Jesus has taken up residence in our hearts and souls, in and through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. God interacts with those filled with the righteousness of Christ Jesus as we interact with our most intimate friends. God discloses His secrets to those who shun a life of forcefulness, seeking worldly power. He does this through the indwelling of His Holy Spirit in and through His Holy Word.
