Ephesians 3:12-13 In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.
As the Apostle Paul pens this
letter to the Christians at Ephesus, he knows that a crisis is on the horizon.
At times of approaching crisis among the churches, Paul would send a letter to
encourage the saints during their trials and tribulations. Unfortunately, the
impending crisis this time involved the Apostle Paul himself. Paul was about to
be put in a Roman Prison, and in most cases, when the Romans imprisoned a
Christian, it ended in death. This crisis was not only going to affect Paul but
was going to affect all that had heard the gospel from Paul and accepted Christ
Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Paul wrote this to the Ephesians Church so they
would not become discouraged in his time of crisis and turn their backs on the
Gospel of Christ Jesus.
Satan
has a heyday when Christians become discouraged in their service to God,
especially when spreading the gospel to lost souls. A loan company called
Deitch ran a series of commercials many years ago. There would be a
greedy-looking banker looking out the blinds in his office while someone signed
up with Deitch. The greedy banker would snarl and say: “I lost another one to
Deitch.” Satan does the same thing when someone comes forward and accepts
Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior; he says: “I lost another one to
Jesus.” There is a danger when one of us
Christians becomes weary in our service to God. One of the first things
discouraged Christians will do is slack up in their prayer life and Bible
study. The next thing is a loss of desire to fellowship with other Christians
in Worship services, Bible study, and other fellowship activities. Lacking
these most critical activities will result in the loss of our desire to share
the gospel with the lost souls that we encounter every day of our lives.
As
believers, we have full and free access to the throne room of God 24/7. There is
not a slimmer of a chance that God will reject one of His children. We have unrestricted
access to the creator of all in heaven and all on earth. The union we know with
God gives us boldness and confidence to carry out the “Great Commission”
(Matthew 28:16-20; Acts 1:8). As followers and believers in Christ Jesus, we
need to know of our privileges before God.
