2 Corinthians 12:10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
This verse of scripture
displays an enigma of anguish and distress. The world could not conceive that a
person could find strength in their weakness. The truth is that any strength we
might muster is because of Christ Jesus in us. Paul listed five things that he
delighted in because it would be a demonstration of the glory of God upon the
earth. First, Paul informed the Christians at Corinth that he considered it a
blessing to glory in his weaknesses because, in weakness, he experienced the
power of Christ Jesus at work in and through him. Second, Paul discovered that
we could only find strength in our weakness because it places all the glory on
the power of God.
In our weakness, we learn to
place our faith and trust in God in the same manner the Children of Israel did
in the wilderness, as they collected their daily share of Manna. We can use
that as an example of how we learn to depend on God daily for the strength we
need to carry on for that day. God told the Israelites only to pick up enough
Manna for the day. In our case, we call on God for the strength we need today
and have faith that He will provide our power for the next day. If the
Israelites gathered more than their daily needs required and attempted to keep
the excess overnight, they were shocked at what happened to their Manna. The
stench from the extra manna was horrific and filled with tiny fat worms. The
manna story is a lesson for us to place our daily faith in God for today and
not attempt to use that strength tomorrow. When we wake up the following day,
we should go to God and ask for strength for the new day.
When we arise in weakness on
any morning, we must not see it as a day of inaction. Instead, we must seize
the opportunity to call on our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, for the strength
to accomplish His will for that day, and not attempt to reuse His daily strength
another day. Every day is a new day to place our faith and trust in God for that
day.
Matthew 6:34 Therefore
do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has
enough trouble of its own.
