Bible Verse of the Day Sunday July 31st 2022

Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother (or sister) is born for a time of adversity.

This verse in the seventeenth Proverb speaks of a relationship built upon the foundation of the love of Christ Jesus. A worldly friendship limits when or how long the relationship will last. An honest friendship is centered around a mutual or shared activity or a reciprocated conviction or principle. In a world-based friendship, in most cases, there will be two people with a similar passion. Then when one of the comrades changes their life course, the friendship will fade away like the setting sun. Sometimes a worldly comradeship is shared by two people who find themselves in a low societal position, but when one of them begins to rise above the shared status, the friendship will end. Sometimes, two worldly friends will share the same negative view of a Christ-centered life. Then when one of them surrenders their lives to Christ Jesus and accepts Him as their Lord and Savior, the other will attempt to drag them back with the stipulation that the friendship will end. God does not call us to bear our load alone (Galatians 6:2); we are called to affiliation and connection within the community of Christ Jesus.

If or when we find ourselves in a relationship or friendship with an unsaved person, our primary responsibility becomes evangelism. Jesus Christ must be the link that bounds us and everyone together so that all can experience the authentic love of God, along with a veritable Christian fellowship. An authentic Christ-centered companion will always show the love of God no matter what rough or rocky road comes our way. As true Christian friends, we will always be understanding and compassionate and never seek good for ourselves at the cost of another (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). As Christian friends, we should always be prepared and ready to give ourselves to Christ Jesus and others (2 Corinthians 8:5).

True Christian fellowship does not cavalcade its achievements and triumphs to attempt to build oneself up over another. By a public self-showing of our accomplishments, we are trying to hold ourselves up before others. On the other hand, the only one we should hold ourselves up to is Christ Jesus. It will demonstrate beyond doubt that we all have a long way to go, as long as we are in this physical body.
