Bible Verse of the Day Thursday July 7th ,2022

John 6:66-69 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

This verse opens up with “from this time,” the time referred to here is the “Bread of Life” discourse (John 6:25-59). The Jews wanted some sign from God that Jesus was the true bread of life. They referred to Moses and the Manna from heaven and wanted Jesus to provide some miracle to satisfy their worldly cravings.

From that time forward, many people rejected the truth that Jesus was the true promised Messiah sent from God. Jesus questioned His closest followers as to whether or not they were going to abandon Him. Peter assured Jesus that the twelve realized there was nowhere else to go to know they had eternal life. There is a line drawn by God that separates His faithful followers and counterfeit followers. Left to their worldly wants and desires, the sinner will always choose the carnal path. The sinner, of which we all are (Romans 3:23; 3:10), will not embrace Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior without God drawing us to Him (John 6:44).

When a person decides and commits to follow Jesus, one cannot ride the fence between God and the world. There must be a solid commitment to surrender our lives, totally and entirely, to God’s love, grace, and mercy and a solid commitment to the work He has called us to do. Sometimes, the ministry God has called us to seems to be on shaky ground. However, that should not lessen our surrender and commitment to follow Jesus and spread the good news of His gospel to a lost, dark, and dying world.
