Psalms 146:3-4 Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.
We are to praise God, not human beings, even the highest world esteemed “princes” are all in question. We can rest assured that when we place our faith and trust in these most charismatic world leaders, we will be disappointed; it is just a matter of time. No matter how highly esteemed this human is, they are simply a “son of Adam” that has, just like us, inherited fragility and weakness (Psalm 146:3).
People spend massive amounts of time in their lives chasing what they see as their panacea, the one thing that will resolve all their problems. Sometimes this is some political, religious, or motivational guru that they believe has all the answers to all their problems. We fall into a deceptive sense of security because we believe that these “leaders of people” have all the answers and that their misguided plan will turn things around and put us on the easy street. Our faith and trust are in them, so we follow along with their projects. In our eyes, these leaders can do no wrong, and when they do and will, we move on to the next leader with another seemingly good plan.
We never realize that in the final analysis, we cannot put our faith and trust in any human being, no matter how charismatic they might seem. We all depend on some people, more or less, at times but not on how we should place our faith and trust in our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus (Isaiah 40:6-7).
We should not hesitate to trust our family, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ. The problem is, as Isaiah stated, people are like grass, and their faithfulness is limited to the amount of time they have here in this life. In other words, we can’t put our complete trust and faith in people in any long-lasting perception. Instead, we should place our faith and trust in the one that will always be with us through eternity. People are like withering flowers; they have a limited lifespan. Our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, on the other hand, is the “rock of our salvation” that we can depend on because His truth and Holy Word will stand firm forever, even when the last blade of grass falters, and the last flower falls from its stem (Isaiah 40:8).
No matter how highly educated and accomplished a human being is, they are only human. One day they will return to the dust from whence they came, and their plans will fade away like the setting sun. Thus, we should always place our hope and certainty on our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, and not on humans.
