Bible Verse of the Day Sunday Aug 21st , 2022

Hebrews 12:28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,

The Kingdom we receive at our salvation is not of this world but God. He will one day create a “New Heaven and a New Earth, the Holy City Jerusalem” (Revelation 12:21), which will be an eternal resting place for God’s people. It will be immovable, steadfast, and never shaken.

It is interesting that here, as in many other verses, we are told to be thankful since God reminds us so many times; it is something well worth our attention and obedience. Being grateful to God means in all circumstances. We can lose our job, our health may fail, or we might have lost a loved one that has gone home to be with the Lord. However, we always have much to be thankful for in Christ Jesus. Paul had every right to be embittered and resentful, but even when he was in chains locked up in a Philippian Jail, after a severe flogging, he and Silas did not have a pity party; they prayed and sang hymns of thankfulness (Acts 16:23-25).

We should worship God acceptably with reverence and awe. Unfortunately, many churches are bordering on the frivolous when it comes to worship. Our Worship and praise to God become shallow and vain when we go to Him with our heads and not our hearts (Romans 12:1). Worship is not something that we do just when we are gathered together as God’s people in His house. Worship is what we do every second of our lives; it is thanking God every day for who He is and what he has done and is doing. We show worship to our Lord and Savior in how we interact with those around us, especially the lost of the world. The only sermon that a lost person may ever hear is observing how we are living our lives.

God’s will must become our will, in all that we are and all that we seek. We must take up our cross and follow Jesus (Matthew 16:24). There is a difference between denial of oneself and self-denial. When we deny ourselves, we surrender ourselves totally to Christ Jesus. In denying ourselves and our plans, we are saying to God that it is not my will I wish to adhere to but yours. On the other hand, self-denial is a frugal and abstinent tactic to gain approval or praise from God. The former is salvation by grace through faith; the latter is an attempt at a works salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9).
