Psalm 34:10 The lions may grow weak and hungry. But those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
We could go on a worldly search for good things, but this Psalm advises us to seek after God, who is the giver of all good things. Prayer releases the blessings that Christ Jesus has in store for all His followers and believers, filling our hearts and souls with good things that truly satisfy our complete being in a way that worldly things can’t. We view “good things” differently after making God the center of our lives, the hub of our wheel instead of a spoke that comes around every so often.
The
things we search for in the worldly sphere are temporary; all earthly matter
will one day return to dust, including this shell that houses our spirits.
Sometimes, Satan will try to take control of our hearts and souls so that he
can guide our bodies, but God is the strength that will never fail and will go
on for all time and eternity.
Lions
are the Kings of the Jungle because of their incredible strength, agility, and
cunningness, but even they sometimes have trouble finding the good things that
keep them going. Likewise, humans occasionally use strength, skill, and cunning
to find the good things they think they need. Trusting God for our daily
provisions is a much better policy than the craftiest world philosopher could
ever teach or perform. There was a story of an English war in antiquity where
the victors would pillage the homes of the widows of the fallen soldiers. The
soldiers told the poor widow they would take all she had at one particular
house, leaving her with nothing to put in or on her. She said that she didn’t
care because as long as there was a God in Heaven, she would want for nothing.
If
it were a good thing that there was no sin, Satan or evil in the world, no
infirmity or sickness, our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, would immediately
obliterate these things. If all the gold and silver hoarded up by all the
rulers of this world were suitable for His followers, Christ Jesus would make
us worldly monarchs. Instead, we go through trials and tribulations in this
world for the glory of God. Moreover, we have been adopted into His royal
family that will enjoy riches that this world cannot even comprehend, for
eternity, not just for a time here in this life.
