Bible Verse of the Day Wednesday August 17th, 2022

2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them —bringing swift destruction on themselves.

This second chapter of the second letter from the Apostle Peter deals with Satan's so-called leaders here on this earth. These people paint a picture of themselves as religious for the world to see so they can gain a following or base of people. They often connect with one of the world's religious organizations and focus their lives on fame and fortune instead of the true Gospel of Christ Jesus. They thrive financially, sometimes to extremes, so their followers will believe they are successful and keep up the donations to maintain their lavish lifestyle (1 Peter 2:21-22; Proverbs 26:11).

Peter identifies these individuals as false prophets. A prophet brings forth the true Word of God. Some get this confused with ones that can foretell the future; however, if you read about the encounter Paul and Silas had with one that predicts the future in Philippi, you will see that ability does not come from God; it comes from Satan (Acts 16:16-18).

When someone sacrifices their devotion to principle, the genuine wellspring, and belief of the Gospel of Christ Jesus for worldly fame and fortune, they have turned their backs on Christ Jesus and the message He desires to be carried to the ends of the earth (Matthew 7:21-23). Many out there will do anything to maintain and further their elegant and luxurious way of living. Some do not care that they may be a deterrent to the eternal life of so many people. With no core conviction, some politicians gauge their entire plan on what the polls indicate. Unfortunately, some Christians out there are the same; if they can maintain their high-end salary, they care very little about the core principles and teachings of Christ Jesus and His gospel.

These are the false prophets that Peter is warning us about. If someone comes to you with some teaching or an idea that cannot be justified and verified in God's Holy Word, shun them and move on. One of Satan's favorite tools is getting one of his false prophets to quote some verse from the Bible completely out of context to prove their incorrect point. The only way one can know they will not fall into that trap or snare of Satan is to be well versed in God's Holy Word, and the only way that can happen is if God's Word is an integral part of our daily spiritual diet.
