Matthew 12:25 Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand."
Satan is at
work every millisecond daily, doing his utmost to weaken the Body of Christ, God’s
Church. His first attempt was to hold himself higher than God which resulted in
his expulsion from God’s presence. The devil appeared on the scene again when
God and humanity were in perfect harmony in the Garden of Eden. He created
a great gulf between God and His creation that required our Savior’s sacrifice
on the Cross to bridge. Satan’s futile attempt to derail Christ on His mission
to the Cross failed miserably, but he has not stopped trying to disrupt the
ministry of Christ Jesus, and he will never do that until God stops him in the
final battle.
God never meant
for there to be but one church; there were no denominations in God’s plan to
establish His Church here on this earth. In the Book of Acts 2:44, it tells us,
“all the
believers were together and had everything in common,” they all believed in one
thing, and that was Jesus died on the Cross for all people’s sins, and whoever
accepts Him will be saved. The second chapter of Acts says that they ate and
worshipped together and were glad of it. God blessed their efforts, and many
came to Jesus every day (Acts 2:46-47).
Satan uses many issues
today to cause disunion in the Body of Christ. Every group or denomination has
rules and regulations to follow to attain standing in the assembly. Some say
everyone should use one specific version of the bible or another; some proclaim
that you cannot lose your salvation, while others say you can. There are
debates on precise wording during baptism and what day the worship services
should be. Should women be preachers or not, the list goes on and on.
God spells all of these
issues out in His Holy Word, but different people interpret the scripture in
diverse manners. Therefore, Satan mounts enormous efforts to ensure the world
knows where each one stands on these debates. That is what Satan wants to see
because the more time spent trying to clear up these differences, the less time
there will be to pursue our real goal, which is to witness Christ and His
gospel to the ends of the earth.
There are so many lost,
hurting people without Christ in their lives who do not know Him as their Lord
and Savior that we cannot afford to please ourselves by proving our points to
one another and neglecting our intended ministry. Every day a Christian will
come in contact with many souls we need to introduce to Christ Jesus. So let
us, as God’s children focus on reaching out to the lost of this world instead
of falling prey to the shares and traps of Satan by feeding his disunion
monster.
