James 1:13-14 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their evil desire and enticed.
Before we can have the victory over sin that was won for us by Christ, we must place the responsibility right where it belongs, with ourselves. When we try to blame our sins on others, we turn a blind eye to the real issue.
A woman was pulling out of
the driveway one morning on her way to work. She did not see a motorcycle driving
down the road approaching her driveway. So, she pulled out into the street, and
the motorcycle hit her car. The bike rider was able to put the bike down in a
ditch softened by the rain from the night before. No one was injured in the
accident; however, the woman started yelling at the bike rider that he had
damaged her car. A man raking leaves across the street told the police what
happened. That woman was looking for someone to blame for her negligence.
In the Garden of Eden, a
real blame game was going on. Eve blamed the snake, and Adam blamed his wife.
They were both looking for someone to blame for their sins. It is ingrained in
our human nature to blame someone else for our wrongdoings. The world tells us
to look out for number one and try to transfer the blame to someone else.
If you find yourself trapped by sin that you just can’t seem to get out from under, it may be because you are spending your time looking for someone to blame instead of focusing on the real problem. There are those out there who will even blame God for their sins. You will never be able to know the victory over sin as long as you are playing the blame game. James made it very clear that God does not tempt anyone and that our evil desires drag us down.
There is wickedness within us that will depress and dishearten us if we allow it. If we give into it, we will develop cravings that will gain more and more control over us. Sin is always appealing, congenial, and formidable. It defrauds us, and we always pay the high price placed upon sin. James made it very clear that God does not tempt anyone and that our evil desires drag us down. If you desire to experience the fullness of the Christian joy that can be yours, quit trying to lay the blame on others and make excuses for your sin. Instead, admit that you are a sinner and in need of a Savior. Here is the beauty of it all, Jesus will draw you close to Himself and forgive you of your sins (1 John 1:9).
