In
the Old Testament, the Jews, the Children of Israel, were called by God to be a
holy nation of people unto God. God chose them to be His heralds and
ambassadors to the rest of the world. They were to be a reflector of God's
light that would shine into the gentile world. Their mission was to be priestly
mediators between God and the world so that all people would know that
salvation was found in God alone.
However,
the Jews failed miserably in this mission given to them by God and handed down
through His Prophets. They came to believe that salvation was for them and them
alone. The Gentiles were to be shunned and avoided at all costs. They falsely
believed that just going into the house of a Gentile would render them unholy
and unclean. Thus, God gave Peter a vision of correction in this concern before
being called to the house of Cornelius, a Roman Centurion, a Gentile. (Read the
story in Acts 10). At the home of Cornelius, Peter finally realizes that God
shows no favoritism between the Jews and the Gentiles (Acts 10:34-35).
To
all people, Jew, or Gentile, who place their faith and trust in Him, Christ
Jesus will become their Savior. Once He becomes our Savior, we must accept Him
as our Lord. Christ Jesus stands ready, through the power of the Holy
Spirit, to lead, guide, and direct our every step. To all that are called of
God, regardless of race, culture, or nationality, He is Christ, the power and
wisdom of God. But, on the other hand, for all that reject Him, regardless of
race, culture, or nationality, He is their Judge. He becomes the "stone
that causes people to stumble, and a rock that makes them fall” (1 Peter 2:8
Todays VOTD) People stumble because they fail to follow Jesus.
Our
Lord and Savior Christ Jesus is either our Judge or our Savior; every person
will experience His love, grace, and mercy or have to face His wrath. All
people have free will to either believe in Christ Jesus, placing our faith and
trust in Him as the true promised Messiah, or not believe, reject Him, and
spend eternity separated from God, along with Satan and his followers. God will
call every person to Himself; He wants all people to come to salvation (1
Timothy 2:3-4).
As
followers and believers in Christ Jesus, it is our responsibility to ensure
that the message of Christ Jesus's gospel reaches the ends of the earth (Acts
1:8). We are all ambassadors to Christ Jesus, and our lives should reflect the
only true light to this lost, dark, and dying world (2 Corinthians 5:20).
