Galatians 4:6 Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, Father."
The Greek word found in this verse for "sons" is "huios" Strong's 5207; its usage is a “son” or a “descendent,” so this promise is for all sons and daughters who are in Christ Jesus. What a blessing of divine love and grace that we, who were once at enmity with God, have that we are called descendants, sons, and daughters of God. We also have been issued a birth certificate in the person of the Holy Spirit of God that indwells all sons and daughters of God in Christ Jesus.
The eternal indwelling of God’s Holy Spirit takes up residence in all that accept Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit that leads, guides, and directs our every step is both a guarantee and proof that we are all joint heirs with Christ Jesus in the Kingdom of God. This great gift is much more than just theoretical thinking, making us sons and daughters of God because God implants the very life of His Son, our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, into our hearts, minds, body, and souls. Where the law could only influence and regulate an external relationship with God, His love and grace through the indwelling of His Holy Spirit affects and powers the inner nature of all His sons and daughters (Romans 8:9 & 14-17).
We, as His children, have the indwelling of
God’s Holy Spirit in us to give confirmation and verify our position in the
royal family of God. The abdication of the Holy Spirit in the children of God
gives us confidence that God accepts us. He does not base this acceptance on
any good works we think we might have done but on what our Lord and Savior did
on the Cross of Calvary.
Some hold to the premise that salvation that
came for us on the Cross of Calvary is the total accomplishment of the work of
Christ Jesus. However, far more than that is ours as the sons and daughters of
God. Just what Christ Jesus did for us through His Substitutionary work on the
Cross of Calvary cannot be overstated. We must not dwell only on the act of
atonement to the point that we overlook the entire purpose of the sacrifice of
Christ Jesus on the Cross. The forgiveness of our sins and the reconciliation
with God the Father are blessings beyond our ability as mere humans to
comprehend. There is an additional purpose: that we have been made acceptable
to God to become His sons and daughters, co-inheritors in His Kingdom with
Christ Jesus. That should make us want to shout it to the world from the
highest mountain top on the planet.
