Genesis 3:8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
God,
who is not constrained by time, who is eternal, created the world and is in
complete control of all history, past, present, and future. In His great loving
grace, God activated His wonderful and unique plan for the redemption of all
humankind when His creation, man and woman, committed the first sin. However,
when they did that, God promised that a Savior would come into the world, the
promised Messiah (Genesis 3:15).
That
day, Adam and Eve decided to doubt God and listen to the lies of Satan, and it
had eternal consequences for all people down through the ages. God’s excellent
plan of redemption for all of humankind was set in motion the instant that our
first parents sinned against God. Just as sin entered the world by the
disobedience of one person, all people were made righteous through the
obedience of one person, our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus (Romans 5:18-19).
What we must do is believe that Jesus was the true Son of God, that He was the
promised Messiah, and place our faith and trust in Him as our Savior and Lord,
and our sins will be forgiven.
When
Adam and Eve were attempting to hide from God, they were attempting to hide
their sin from God instead of admitting what they had done was wrong and asking
God for His forgiveness. Many today still try to hide their sins from God,
foolishly believing that if they can hide them from the world, God will not see
them either. Adam and Eve fell for the lies of Satan that if they did disobey
God and ate of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they
would be like God. There are three aspects of that fall that are still in play
today. That is the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life
(1 John 2:16).
Eve
fell for the allusion that Satan had placed in front of her, that the tree was
good for food (lust of the flesh), pleasing to the eyes (lust of the eyes), and
desirable for gaining the wisdom of God, as Satan put it “you will be like God”
(Pride of life). As we read from the Apostle John in His 1st Book, nothing of
the world comes from God, including these three aspects (1 John 2:16).
Let
us all pray that Satan may not fool us with his evil schemes and understand
that just as the empty promises he made to Adam and Eve were an allusion,
everything he dangles in front of us is an allusion. Let us pray that we would
not be taken in by the lust of our eyes and flesh, or the pride of Live.
Although this does sound like it might be difficult for us to attain, it is not
difficult; it is impossible without total surrender to God and faith and trust
in our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. If we, like Adam and Eve, try to hide our
sins, all we are doing is deceiving ourselves; we are not deceiving God (1 John
1:8). However, if we confess our sins, God will forgive us those sins (1 John
1:9).
