1 Corinthians 12:31 Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.
Spiritual Gifts can be over-misrepresented by some in the body of Christ and downplayed by others. While some lift the significance of spiritual gifts over their eternal salvation, others can decrease the advantages that are ours through the spiritual gifts from our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. In any case, it is significant that we utilize spiritual gifts as God intended. They are not to be mishandled or used for self-satisfaction, nor should somebody abuse their spiritual gifts by attempting to exhibit their exceptional spirituality.
Paul
is teaching the Christians in Corinth and, by extension, all followers and
believers in Christ Jesus down through the ages the proper balance of our
spiritual gifts. As born-again saved children of God, we should make it our
prerogative to comprehend and understand the significance of our spiritual
gifts. We should use them in the furtherance of the Gospel with assurance that
all the glory goes to God.
Spiritual
gifts are given to all followers and believers in Christ Jesus by God for the
sole purpose of carrying out the good work that God has called us to
accomplish. All saved believers in Christ Jesus will receive a spiritual gift
or gifts; however, it is not up to us which gifts we will receive. Paul tells
us that the same Holy Spirit works in the lives of all believers in Christ
Jesus to allocate to each person as is in His will. Therefore, it is not up to
us to seek our preferred spiritual gifts but to allow the Holy Spirit to lead
us to the spiritual gifts that God has assigned for us.
The
Christians at Corinth disregarded that God gave them spiritual gifts for the
enlightenment of the entire Body of Christ and God’s Glory. We should not use
our spiritual gifts for self-centered or self-seeking motives but to further
the body of Christ. Spiritual Gifts are given to each member of the Body of
Christ so that when they all work together, it will benefit the common good of
all members. If we were to disregard a spiritual gift God gave us and seek one
more to our liking, there would be a void in the efficiency of the Body of
Christ.
As
part of the Body of Christ, a member of a church, we should seek our appointed
spiritual gift or gifts that we can implement and employ for the betterment of
the body and the glory of God. Therefore, in daily prayer and bible study, we
should seek to grow spiritually in His grace and love. We should bring about
enlightenment for the other members of the body and humbly receive
enlightenment from other members ourselves.
