Titus 2:15 These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.
Paul was encouraging Titus and, as an extension, teaching us to speak continuously concerning God's love, grace and mercy through Christ Jesus. Letting all people know how a personal relationship with Christ Jesus can affect all lives in such a positive way that the world cannot even comprehend. This message is for all ministers of the gospel. Don't think you are exempt from this appeal because you are not a pastor, Sunday school or bible study teacher, or missionary in a foreign land. All followers and believers in Christ Jesus are ministers of the gospel. When Jesus returned to the Father in heaven, He left us with His final appeal. It was for all His followers to carry the gospel's good news to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). He spoke to all born again, washed in His blood, followers, and believers in Christ Jesus (Romans 15:14).
Paul has a specific message from the letter to the Churches in
Rome and, in extension, to all believers that follow. In this scripture verse, Paul
is letting us know that all believers and followers of Christ Jesus have the
knowledge and ability to teach one another about the love and grace of God
through Christ Jesus. This message does not mean we can sit back on our
achievements and expect God to pour His word into us. It will require prayer
and Bible Study, both individual and group study. Most churches out there offer
some form of mid-week Bible study. This study is only one hour out of our week
and can bring about treasures of the Word of God that we could not have
comprehended beforehand.
The word minister is not a
job classification; it is an action. Someone ministers healing to someone that
is wounded, their title is doctor, but their job is to minister. Someone brings
comfort to a small child, their title is parent, but their job is ministering
to that child. As followers and believers in Christ Jesus, we minister the
grace and truth of God's Word to others to help them spiritually mature in
their walk with the Lord. Our title is "Christian," and our job is to
minister the truth of the Gospel of Christ Jesus.
Our churches need Pastors
and trained teachers, but the church requires much more work; these servants of
Christ Jesus can't humanly do that alone. Your church needs you to spread the
Word of God to as many as possible. As followers of Christ, we are all servants
of God through Christ Jesus, who are saved to serve God in getting His Word out
to the ends of the earth (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
