1 Corinthians 7:31 Those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away.
God
does not intend His children, the followers and believers in Christ Jesus, to
become religious hermits. He does not want us to set up some form of community
restricted to only Christian people. We must live in this world and intermingle
with people of varied religious beliefs and traditions, as well as some with no
religious beliefs. We are in this world but not of this world; we are travelers
moving toward a world where we become renewed and transformed into a place with
no evil and, consequently, no pain or suffering.
When
a nation wants good relations with another country, they send out ambassadors
to let those in the land they are in temporarily know what their homeland is
all about. This process is why we, as the children of God, are here in this
world. We should not take up the traditions of this land that we are
temporarily a part of; we should let those here know what the land that we are
of is all about (2 Corinthians 5:20)
We
will use the things of this world, the necessities of life, and some
non-necessities. However, we must keep at the forefront of our minds that
everything in this world is temporary. As Paul instructed the Christians at
Corinth, we can use the things of this world, just don’t become engrossed in
them (2 Corinthians 4:18)
Our
life here is only temporary duty (TDY); we are here for a short period and for
a specific reason. But, first, we are here as ambassadors for Christ Jesus to
let all know what our homeland is and how anyone can become a citizen of the
Kingdom of God.
Sometimes
we become dissatisfied with our stay in this foreign land because we will never
have the fulfillment we desire until we are at home in the new heaven and
earth. We will never be happy here because this is not where we should be; this
world is not our ultimate home.
Sometimes
in our lives, we find ourselves in a period of crisis. When that happens, we
should clearly focus on our life’s priorities, which can only be possible in
Christ Jesus and through the indwelling of God’s Holy Spirit. God created us
for something much grander and permanent. Not to say there will not be
some happy moments here in this life, but nothing here can compare with what
God has planned for those that Love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9; Isaiah 64:4).
