Revelation 3:20 Here I am! I
stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I
will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
This verse has been the center of some controversy over the years. Some say it is speaking of someone being called to conversion, while others say it is speaking of saved people allowing Christ Jesus entrance into their hearts. It could be either way, God is not restricted to a single frame of mind.
There are many Christians out there that are in desperate need of a rekindling of the flame of their relationship with our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. In our walk with Christ Jesus, we may feel a tug in the direction of the world and its ways. Yet, if someone is unsaved, they can rest assured that Christ Jesus is no farther away than just outside the door of their hearts. All that is required for Him to reside in a lost, dark, and dying heart is a simple invitation; He will answer and enter any heart that calls on His name (Romans 10:12-13). He will never barge in; Christ Jesus only dwells in hearts that have offered Him an invitation. His heart longs for us to share our life with Him; His joy is in having a relationship with anyone that wishes to be part of His Royal Family.
There is a parable of a woman
who was alone in life, scraped out a meager living cleaning other people’s
house. She worked from early in the morning till late at night, often barely
getting by. She visited the big Church in town one Sunday, and the members
complained that she smelled of cleaning supplies. She came forward for
salvation and maybe to join the Church, but the Pastor told her to go back home
and pray about it, and He would do the same. This ritual continued for several
weeks until she gave up on trying to get into that Church. She prayed and told
Jesus that she could not get into the big Church in town. Jesus answered, “don’t
feel bad, I have been trying to get into that church for years, and no one will
open the doors for me either.”
If Jesus is not a resident of
your heart today, you must open the door. Tell Him that you want Him to fill
your life with His presence, comfort, and power. Tell Him you want your life to
be lived with Him and for Him. Then, he will not hesitate to come in and fill
your heart and soul with more joy than any human mind can even begin to
comprehend.
