Bible Verse of the Day Monday October 17th, 2022

Hebrews 13:11-13  The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his blood. Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore.

The blood of lambs carried by the high priest into the Most Holy Place was a type and shadow of the coming sacrifice by "the Lamb of God," our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. The sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross covers our sins for all time; the animal's blood in the Jewish sacrifices only covered the sins of the offeror for one year. The underlying theme of this scripture verse is that we, too, must not seek our salvation in the world but go to where we find Jesus. When we truly and fully accept that salvation comes only through the sacrifice that Christ Jesus made on the Cross, it will separate us from the world's ways, not from the people of the world. This separation from the customs and behaviors of the world must never send out an attitude of self-righteousness, pretentiousness, or seclusion from those that are not Christians. On the other hand, it does not indicate that we, as Christians, should sanction anything against the truth of God's Holy Word.

We cannot depend on any religious or denominational affiliation link for salvation; we must rely only on the precious blood of the Lamb of God (Christ Jesus) as an offering for our sin (2 Timothy 2:12: Galatians 2:20).

As Christians, we bear Jesus' reproach when we distinguish ourselves with Him; as our Lord and Savior suffered in the world, so shall we. This scripture tells us that Jesus suffered outside the gate, so we should leave the encampment of safekeeping, luxury, and comfort as His followers and believers. We should not only be prepared but enthusiastic to suffer with Christ Jesus on Calvary's Pathway. Our movement away from the life of ease provided by the world's gold, silver, fame, and fortune must not be on our own power. It must be through the force and holiness that comes only through Christ Jesus, or else the glory would be ours and not God's, which would displease God (Hebrews 11:6).

Hebrews was written mainly to the Jewish Christians of the first century, although there is a message for Christians of all times. The early Jewish Christians were to cut their emotional and religious ties to Judaism. In those days, as well as today, there was no problem with Jewish people following Jewish customs, like the Passover and other festivals; the problem arises when they or anyone depended on them or anything outside of Christ Jesus for the forgiveness of sins (Romans 12:2; 1 John 2:15).
