Psalm 118:24 The LORD has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.
We
all love to travel around this land that God has made and take in His stunning
beauty in Nature. There is nothing more beautiful than a sunrise at sea. When
it begins, there is just a red glow on the eastern horizon; then, as the world
turns slowly, the magnitude of the power of the Sun will start to take shape
until we cannot look at it any longer. There is another beautiful sight that
one can only see from the air. When you fly in a small plane early in the
morning around the mountains, right after the fog rises, there will be pockets
of fog left in the many small valleys through the mountains. It appears as
though an artist has touched those small cavities with a tiny brush stroke. All
of the beauty in Nature has one thing in common, it was all created by the one
and only true God, “The LORD has done it this very day.”
However,
the 118th psalm has a more profound meaning than the simple beauty we see in
God’s creation. This psalm is a reassurance that God’s love endures forever
(Psalm 118:1) and that God is always with us, and the world can do nothing to
halt that (Psalm 118:6). There is a line in an old gospel song that goes: “what
a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see.” What a day that will be when
jubilation and exultation fill every cavity of this world as God’s eternal plan
moves into its final stage. The redemption of all humankind will rejoice in the
2nd coming of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus.
At
our Savior’s first coming, people disparaged him because He came from Galilee;
they looked down on him because he did not have a formal education. During His
first visit to earth, the people around Him were offended because He unmasked
and revealed their hypocrisy, legalism, and the human truth behind their
rituals and customs. The world belittled Him because among His closest
disciples were sinners and tax collectors. At His first coming, His sinless,
perfect blood was spilled through the cruelest, most shameful, and most painful
form of execution ever known to humankind. His accusers and executioners did
not realize this was part of God’s Master plan, and He shed His blood to redeem
all people, even those who hated Him and had Him killed.
However,
His second coming will be something altogether different. Nobody will wonder if
He is the true promised Messiah as they did at His first coming. On that day
that God has made, all knees will bow. All tongues will confess (Romans 14:11).
This will be a day that all that have confessed Christ Jesus as their Lord and
Savior and have placed their faith and trust in Him for their eternal life will
be glad and rejoice in the most beautiful day that any will have seen up to
that day.
