Acts 1:3 After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.
In
the forty days between His resurrection and His ascension, Jesus appeared to
His Apostles and hundreds of witnesses. The proof that He was alive and rose
from the dead, just like He said he would, was irrefutable and conclusive. So
much so that Luke did not see it necessary to list all the proofs in his
writings. To heighten and redouble the confidence in His Apostles so that they
might be able to carry His gospel to the ends of the earth, Jesus entered a
locked room where they were meeting (John 20:19). Jesus showed them the scars
on his hands and feet (Luke 24:39), then ate and drank with them (Luke
24:41-43). Next, he appeared to them at the sea of Galilee and fixed a meal for
them. Some of the Apostles had fished the entire night with no luck in their catch,
Jesus told them to recast their nets, and they hauled in so many fish that they
had to get help hauling in all the fish (John 21:6-8).
Just
as there were undoubtedly proofs that Jesus rose from the dead and was alive
then, there is still more than sufficient evidence today that we serve a risen
Savior. Two men were on their way back home after Jesus had risen from the
grave that learned what a walk with Jesus would do for your life. The same
holds today; when we walk with Jesus, we will experience things that we
otherwise could not even imagine. On their way to Emmaus, these two men were
broken-hearted and blinded from the truth; once they began their walk with
Jesus, He mended their broken hearts, and their blind eyes were open (Luke
24:13-25).
The
Book of Genesis tells the account of Enoch, that walked with God and then left
this life without experiencing death (Genesis 5:24). When we walk with God,
death is not an end but a new beginning, a simple locale change. When we walk
with Jesus, our eyes will open just as He opened the eyes of the disciples on
the road to Emmaus. Just as He healed the broken hearts of the two people from
Emmaus over two thousand years ago, walking with Him will heal our broken
hearts today. There is no more comforting and sensational truth than the truth
that we can have a sweet walk with our Savior and have a close personal
relationship with Him.
In the first chapter of Acts, we read about His Apostles watching as He ascended to the Father in Heaven. We can know and have total confidence that when
we walk with Jesus, we will see great things, and our resurrection to life
eternal is sure because we serve a risen living Savior (Acts 1:9-11).
