Acts 2:46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
In the 42nd
verse of the 2nd Chapter of Acts, we see that the believers devoted themselves
not only to the message that Paul and the other apostles were bringing them but
also dedicated themselves to fellowship. Some will say they can be just as good
a Christian as anyone else without going to church. However, this is not what
Christ Jesus wanted for His followers on this earth. Fellowship between brothers
and sisters in Christ Jesus is just as crucial as any other aspect of
Christianity. It is no more or less significant than celebrating the Lord's supper and is equally important as going to God in prayer. True Christian
fellowship is all about emphasizing and focusing on other brothers and sisters
in Christ instead of ourselves. We should take the example of our Lord and
Savior, Christ Jesus, who took on the nature of a servant (Philippians 2:7).
Jesus said that He did not come to be served but to serve, and we should model
our lives in that direction (Matthew 20:28; Mark 10:45).
God unambiguously gives us His Thoughts in the Bible; the Word
of God is just that, God speaking to humanity across this planet where we live.
However, over the centuries, humans have misunderstood, distorted, and
misrepresented what God is telling us through His Holy Word.
In 1551 AD, a French writer and author, Robert Estienne, added
chapter and verse divisions to the Bible, and it does indeed make the Bible
much simpler to navigate. However, it has caused some confusion in drawing
attention to specific sections of chapter and verse accounts out of context
with the larger picture. This misuse of the scriptures has caused the most
damaging result in reading and studying God's Word. That is someone going into
the Bible with a false idea and looking for some section of chapter and verse,
taken out of context, to prove their false thesis.
Christian
fellowship is one place where there is much confusion in the study of the Bible
through a misunderstanding of the concept. When one thinks of fellowship today,
fellowship halls and dinners come to the forefront of imagination. However,
that is not the meaning and intent of true fellowship. The word fellowship
stems from the Greek word "koinõnia (Strong's 2842)," which means a
partnership. As His Children,
we are in a partnership with God in carrying His Word to the ends of the Earth.
