John 18:36 Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place."
The origin of Christ Jesus was
from heaven; God became flesh and dwelt among us as the Son of God, the Messiah
promised at the fall in the Garden of Eden. Jesus came to this earth to set up
His Kingdom, but the rejection of the Jewish people delayed that. He went to
the earth to liberate a world of lost sinners and to save all who would accept
Him and believe He is the Promised Messiah from eternal death. God created the
first humans to take care of the things of the earth (Genesis 2:15), but when
Adam and Eve gave in to Satan's temptation to doubt God's Word, Satan began his
faulty, defective, and evil carnal system of the world government. Jesus came
to claim back humanity's right to take care of the things of the earth, but
before that would come about, Jesus had to pay the penalty for Humankind's sin
since we could not do that on our own.
Jesus told Pilate, the Roman
Governor, that He was a King; however, His Kingdom was not of this world. Jesus
did not come to earth to overthrow or capture any kingdom through natural
methods. Jesus let the Roman Governor know that he had no power over Him except
what came from heaven; furthermore, there was an untold number of legions of
Angels ready to go at His command (John 19:11; Matthew 26:53).
Jesus was charged with treason
because he held himself up over Caesar, but He made it clear that His Kingdom
differed from worldly kingdoms. The example He used in this verse was that
earthly kingdoms are sustained and protected by military forces that engage in
wars. If this were the manner of His Kingdom, His followers would have taken up
arms against the ruling authorities. Jesus was telling Pilate and all that
served him that His Kingdom was not the result of Human ability or bravery but
the product of a celestial legacy.
Jesus' Kingdom is over the
heart and soul of Humankind, calming and soothing evil, immoral cravings, and
lusts of the human soul. So that love, peace, and unity would become the
dominant factor of the human race. One glorious day Jesus will return to
complete the setting up of His Kingdom on this earth. At that time, all other
kings and rulers will lose their titles, and Christ Jesus will be the only
"King of Kings and Lord of Lords" (Revelation 19:16).
