Genesis 5:24 Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.
People who walk devotedly and
staunchly with God will find themselves living in a close and personal
relationship with Christ Jesus. Enoch was one of those people, and the
scriptures paint a clear picture of his last days on this earth. Enoch was
raptured from this world and ushered into the presence of God Almighty. In the
years before the flood, the world knew only iniquity and evil until the
floodwaters of God's Judgment destroyed everyone except Noah and his family.
Enoch walked with God in a world of wickedness and immorality. Enoch's sweet
walk with God is a perfect model that we can pattern our lives after today. The
beautiful and unique relationship that Enoch enjoyed with God is precisely the
relationship that God wants to have with all of His children, then and now.
The Bible does not tell us if
Enoch sinned or not during the 300 years that he walked with God, but it is a
high probability that he did. The same principle applies today that was in
effect when Enoch walked the earth. God’s forgiveness applies if Enoch sinned
or if we sin today. Before God became flesh and dwelt among us, salvation came
only through faith and belief in the promise of the coming Messiah. After
Christ suffered and died on Calvaries Hill for the sins of the world, the same
applies. Salvation only comes through faith and trust in Christ Jesus as our
Lord and Savior.
The Bible tells us that Enoch
started his walk with God at age 65 when he became the father of Methuselah.
Enoch was saved at age 65 and walked faithfully with God for the remaining 300
years of his life (Genesis 5:21-24). It is not vital how old or young we are
when we get saved; the only critical element that applies is walking faithfully
with God as Enoch did. The result will be the same as Enoch, who went into
God's presence, our bodies will return to the dirt from where they originated,
and our spirits will return to God who gave them (Ecclesiastes 12:7).
God is the same today as He
was in Enoch's day and will be the same for time and all eternity. If we remain
focused on Jesus, the things of this world that are all temporary will grow
strangely dim, and the light of Christ Jesus will shine brightly in our hearts
and souls. We can live a life that will bring honor and glory to God through
our faith and trust in Jesus and what He has done for us. Then we will hear the
words we all yearn for: "Well done my good and faithful servant"
(Matthew 25:21).
