Bible Verse of the Day Wednesday December 14th, 2022

Hebrews 3:1 Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.

The writer of Hebrews is referring to Christian Brothers and Sisters here in this verse. The writer refers to them as "Holy" because of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit of God through Christ Jesus. His reference is not because of any righteousness in and of themselves. As saved, born-again believers, we are called to keep ourselves, and our thoughts concentrated on Christ Jesus. God is calling on His children, whom the precious blood of Christ Jesus has purchased, to acknowledge Jesus as our Apostle and High Priest. The Father sent the Son to atone for the sins of a dark and dying world.

We do not often see the title of Apostle as a representative of Christ Jesus; however, He is our Apostle. The term Apostle holds the idea of being an ambassador, representing the king in other lands. Consequently, we can say that Jesus is God, the Father's supreme ambassador. God has a message of Love so massive that no human could express it to the world. Our Lord and Savior showed Love in a way we can all understand through His work on the Cross of Calvary.

Jesus is our supreme High Priest because he speaks for us before the Father; He is our advocate with God (1 John 2:1). God's Love for us is so far above any human thought pattern that He had to send His Son, Christ Jesus, to demonstrate that Love through His ultimate sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary. The brothers and sisters mentioned in this verse share a common bond of Holiness in Christ. As followers and believers in Jesus, we are set apart and called to be heralds to the world of God's Love, grace, and mercy through Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

The "Holy brothers and Sisters" mentioned in this verse are all people that have responded to God's invitation to salvation. Believers in Christ Jesus carry a minimum of two titles and descriptions, Holy and brothers and sisters. These two designations give a sign of distinction that Father God has endowed them with a calling to represent Him in this world. This particular calling from God also indicates that we are all part of the royal family of God and co-heirs with Christ Jesus. Not that we can compare ourselves with Jesus but that we are all equal members of the Family of God.

The most prestigious and holy calling we share in the coming kingdom of Jesus is being brothers and sisters in Christ. (Romans 8:17).
