Psalm 23:3 He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
When
David was but a lad tending his father's sheep, he discovered God was his own
Shepard. As a young boy, he realized God was always there and would never leave
or forsake him. His spiritual eyes opened to the truth that God provided for
his every need and brought peace to his life that the world could never comprehend.
From
an early age, he loved the Lord with all of his heart, mind, body, and soul,
and God saw him as "a man after His own heart" (1 Samuel 13:14; Acts
13:21-22). From the days when he shepherded his father's sheep to the day he
breathed his last breath as the shepherd king of God's people Israel, He showed
the world that God's promises were always true and that his love, grace, and
kindness never failed.
"He
refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake"
are words that have comforted millions of people through the ages. He restores
my souls are words that have never lost their comforting balm, even to the hard
times we face today. In the 23rd Psalm, we find the loving arms and a heart of
deep love and concern of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus.
He
regenerates our disheartened souls and refreshes and strengthens our drooping
spirits when the world's weight is pressing down on us in times of trouble and
tribulation. Jesus also comes to where we have wandered away from Him and
gently restores us to the path of peace that only He can provide. Jesus also
knows where we are and finds us to restore our hurting souls. Our Lord and
Savior urges us to cast all of our cares on Him because He cares for us (1
Peter 5:7). We must never separate God's care for us and God's will for our
lives. Christ Jesus has a plan for all his followers and believers, and that
plan is to reach out to all who do not know Him as their Lord and Savior. Our
assignments will be as varied and as numerous as the stars in the sky, but all
will lead to spreading His gospel to the ends of the Earth (Acts 1:8). God is
always there and ready, willing, and more than able to shoulder any care that
may come our way.
