Daniel 2:27-28 Daniel replied, “No wise man, enchanter, magician or
diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, but there is a God in heaven who reveals
mysteries. He has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in days to come.
Your dream and the visions that passed through your mind as you were lying in
bed are these.
After King
Nebuchadnezzar had gone through all his supposable tellers of the future to
explain the meaning of his dream, he heard of a young Hebrew man who came there
in the Babylonian captivity of 597 BC that could interpret his dream. The
significance of this dream was hidden not only from the King but from all his
magicians and soothsayers so that Nebuchadnezzar could see the power of the one
true God. The King was most likely hoping for some revelation that extended his
kingdom and power, but Daniel showed him that this revelation was from God and
was about significant changes in the world.
In this day and
age, the Word of God has been relegated to a more poetic literary status by the
supposable wise people of the world. Part of the problem is that so many humans
have translated and retranslated the Bible to fit their prejudices and
preconceptions that one without a knowledge of the Word of God is unsure of
which one to believe. Consequently, Satan has used this to cause people to lose
confidence in what the Bible teaches. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit of God
is the only way anyone can honestly know and understand what the truth of the
Bible is (1 Corinthians 2:14)
Numerous
variations of the gospel show up in so many different translations of the
Bible. However, the bottom line is Jesus is the only way to real true eternal
life (John 14:6). This bottom line also includes the grace of God through our
faith in the sacrifice of Christ Jesus on the Cross of Calvary and His
resurrection. There is absolutely nothing that we can do to work our way to an
eternity with God. We have nothing that God needs or nothing that we possess
that would impress God. The only thing that God wants from us is us, mind,
spirit, body, and soul, surrendered to Him totally and completely (Ephesians
2:8-9)
For Daniel and the other Children of Israel, who were in captivity in Babylon, there was only one true and sure answer: the God of Israel. It was not the supposable wise men of the day or the magical religions of the east; God and God alone held all the answers.
It is the same
for us today; it is not the supposable wisdom of the world that holds the
answers for our lives, it is still the one true God, and He has revealed all
that we need to know through His Holy Word. Just as God revealed the truth of
the King’s dream to Daniel, He will reveal to you, through His Holy Word, what
that truth, the truth that sets you free, really is. The Bible is the bedrock
and heart of our faith in this changing and uncertain world that we live in
today. God knows where all this upheaval and tumult ends up because, contrary
to worldly and popular belief, God is still in Control.
