John 1:12-13 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
Many
people came to Jesus to criticize, mock, and disparage Him while He was on the
earth as God in the flesh, and still today, people disrespect and belittle His
name. However, when the name of Christ Jesus falls on the ears and hearts of
His followers and believers, His is the most magnificent and exquisite name the
human tongue can utter. Even if the world does not see or believe this, the
name of Christ Jesus is the only name in heaven or on earth that is powerful
enough to find the lost and bring them to God's saving grace and eternal life.
To
all that accept Christ Jesus as the only way to Salvation and an eternity in
Heaven with God, He has allowed all that believe on His name to become sons and
daughters of the King and have a right to share in God's eternal Kingdom.
Believing on the Name of Christ Jesus means that we believe and accept His
death on the Cross, and His resurrection from the dead secured our Salvation.
Furthermore, believing in His name indicates that we believe and trust that His
substitutionary work, on our behalf on the Cross of Calvary, is what paid our
sin debt that we could never pay on our own. Believing in and on the name of
Christ Jesus also means that we believe that Jesus took the punishment that
should have been ours, and through our faith and trust in Him, our sins have
been separated from us as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12).
Having
the right to become children of God means that we have something we did not
have previously. Before God gave us this right to become a part of His royal
family, we were lost and on our way to Hell. However, because of our faith and
trust in Christ Jesus and what He has done and continues to do for us, we are
adopted children of God with every right as members of His Royal family.
To
believe on and in His Name is not just a belief in the historical fact that
Jesus did live on the earth, as did otherworldly historical figures. It also
does not mean that we use the Word of God as some academic implement. Instead,
to believe in Christ Jesus' name means that we believe and accept all the
teachings in the Word of God, which all leads to the first and second coming of
our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus.
Accepting
the payment Jesus made on the Cross of Calvary for our sins gives us the right
to eternal life spent with the one that procured that right for us, Christ
Jesus. So it is with the diversity in auditing a class in college, receiving no
Credit, and signing up for the course to receive credit for a grade. Sadly,
many today attend church as auditors and never know the most perfect name in
heaven and on earth, the name above all other names, our Lord and Savior,
Christ Jesus.
