Ruth 3:18 Then Naomi said, "Wait, my daughter, until you find out what happens. For the man will not rest until the matter is settled today."
In
the story of Ruth, she is a genuinely exquisite representation of God's church,
symbolizing the Bride of Christ and Boaz, who is a symbolic figure of our Lord
and Savior Christ Jesus, our Kinsman-Redeemer. Ruth began her life as a Gentile
who did not believe in the promise of the coming Messiah, which placed her in
God's enmity. She would have been reviled and loathed by the Jewish people
simply because of who she was. However, through the gentle mentoring of her
mother-in-law, Naomi, Ruth learned about the one true God and eventually told
Naomi that He was now her God (Ruth 1:16-17). We all come into this world in
the same boat as Ruth, lost in our sins and at enmity with God. Yet, much the
same way Ruth came to know the truth, we are saved through the precious blood
of Christ Jesus and learn about the one true God through His Word and the
mentoring of someone who led us to Christ Jesus.
Boaz
articulated his love for Ruth in his kindness shown to her and Naomi; then,
Ruth laid down at the feet of Boaz until sunrise to convey her love and
devotion to Him. Boaz then covered Ruth with his garment in an honorable symbol
of His love for Her. In like manner, Christ Jesus covers all that come to Him
with his robe of righteousness to signify His love for us, and in return, we
are to bow our lives to his feet. Even though Naomi knew Boaz truly loved Ruth
and intended to take her as his wife, the marriage could not take place because
Boaz would not rest until he settled the matter. Ruth would have to wait
patiently until all marriage provisions were in place. Similarly, we know that
one day Christ Jesus will come back to earth to claim his bride, the church.
Much the same way that Ruth had to wait patiently and not know exactly when her
Kinsman-Redeemer would come for her, we must wait for our Lord and Savior,
Christ Jesus, to return when we are with Him for Eternity.
In
the same manner that Ruth had nothing in return to offer Boaz but her love, he
showered her with his love. So likewise, we have nothing to offer God, but He
continues to shower us with His love in and through Christ Jesus. Therefore, we
must demonstrate our love for Him by following his every footstep. Christ Jesus
is our Kinsman-Redeemer, our Bridegroom, but unlike the story of Ruth, our
story has yet to come to its conclusion. Our Bridegroom has not yet come to
claim His bride, but we know and can testify that Jesus is coming one day to
take us home, and we will be where He is for Eternity; in the meantime, let us
all spread the most incredible love story that will ever be told (John 3:16) to
all that we come in contact.
