Romans 3:12 All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one."
The Apostle Paul's writing to
the Roman Christians is the utmost all-inclusive accords on the condition of
fallen humankind. It transports us to an alarming awareness of our
unrighteousness, and God's perfection and righteousness amplify our wantonness.
It points out the unambiguous truth that we are all sinners, and there is no
righteousness in any of us (Romans 3:23; 3:10). More importantly, Paul's letter
to the Romans points out that we are all under God's wrath and need of a Savior
to rescue us from the penalty of our sins, death (Romans 6:23 a). Paul teaches
us that no single sinner can escape God's wrath and judgment. Regardless of our
race, creed, national origin, or whether man or woman the Apostle brings to our
remembrance, we have all turned away from God, and not one of us does good
(Romans 3:12).
The unembellished certainty of
the truth of this biblical context is a foremost stumbling block in humans'
minds. That is because the world has programmed us to believe that we are good
people when we compare ourselves with others. However, God does not compare one
person's unrighteousness to another because no one does good, not even one. The
natural person will turn away from the truth and will of God because their
lives focus only on themselves, their beliefs, and their ideas. They reject His
love and discard His guidance (Isaiah 1:2; 53:6). The bible tells us that Jesus
did not come to the earth to call the righteous but sinners to repentance (Luke
5:32). The truth is that there are none righteous; every person needs the
salvation that only comes from Christ Jesus and His selfless sacrifice on the
Cross of Calvary. Jesus came to save those who admit they are sinners and can
do nothing in and of themselves (John 15:5).
There has never been a
genuinely righteous person except for Christ Jesus. Our first parents, Adam and
Eve, were not guilty of any sin; they were innocent because they did not know
good from evil. The natural person will not seek after the one true God; they
will attempt to utilize an idol of their own making. Idols and false gods come
and go, but Christ Jesus has always been and will always be the only way to
live eternally with God.
