Genesis 45:28 And Israel said, "I’m convinced! My son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die."
Jacob,
whose name changed to Israel, had sent his sons to Egypt because of the famine
in Israel's land. He must have been through many sleepless nights worrying
about his sons in a faraway land, not knowing when they would return or if they
might return home. The Word of God reveals the extraordinary account of the
family reunion of Joseph and his brothers (Genesis 43:15-45:15). Sadly, Jacob
had no way of knowing about his sons' meeting and reconciliation with their
estranged brother until his sons returned home.
Jacob's
sons had told him that his youngest son Joseph was dead, and he believed that
until the ebbing years of his life. Then, when the brothers returned home, they
told their father that Joseph was alive. At first, he did not allow himself to
believe that such a miracle could happen, but then his sons convinced him that
his long-lost son was alive and well.
Waiting
on God is a critical aspect of our faith and believing that God will never
forsake us and that the answer to our dilemma will come in God's time, not our
time. Just as the instant of the revelation that Jacob's son Joseph was alive,
we will realize that God has had a plan all along. It brings great joy to our
Father in Heaven to bestow great gifts on His children. If we will but open our
spiritual eyes, we will see that God is always at work in our walk with our
Savior. The greatest gift God has bestowed on all followers and believers in
Christ Jesus is Eternal life (Romans 6:23b).
The
selfless sacrifice that our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus not only voluntarily
but joyfully made on the Cross of Calvary (Hebrews 12:2) and his subsequent
resurrection on the third day meant that he had conquered death. His victory
over the grave and death can be anyone's victory that places their faith and
trust in Him (John 3:16). Just as Joseph was ecstatic when he learned that his
son was alive. We can celebrate that we serve a risen Savior, and that Jesus is
alive and at the right hand of God. Just as Jacob had a sweet homecoming with
his son, we will have a sweet homecoming with the Son of God that will last for
eternity.
