1 Corinthians 9:20-23 To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak.
In
his contact with the Jewish people, Paul adapted himself to Jewish traditions
and Biblical dietary requirements. He was not obligated to keep the Mosaic Law
(Romans 6:14) but kept it for the Jew's sake. In much the same way he adapted
himself to Jewish tradition when he was with the Jews, Paul adapted himself to
the ways of the Gentiles when he was among them. The Gospel of Christ Jesus was
Paul's central belief directing his conduct, whether among Jews or Gentiles.
Paul wanted to be a "participant" of the gospel with the Corinthians
and convey the idea of co-partner. He wanted to share the gospel blessing with
the Corinthians when they did not know Christ.
If
we truly love the Lord as Paul did, we will not become rigid in some misguided
traditional way of life. There are many ways to win souls to Christ Jesus
because the methods of people differ significantly across nationalist and
cultural lines. We can only reach the lost on their grounds, not our misguided
tradition or ridged theological beliefs. Therefore, we must approach people in
their areas of interest rather than ours. In this manner, we will establish a
rapport with all people and have the chance to share the path to eternal life
with them. We must also realize that the lion's share of people that God leads
us to share the gospel with do not have a degree in Theology. Therefore, we
must present our soul-winning presentations in a manner that all people will be
able to comprehend the message.
People
generally speak at length about their qualifications or degrees before
presenting any recruitment program or presentation. In God's eyes, the only
requirement to submitting the gospel to the lost of the world is a true heart's
love for God and People. However, one word of caution should be kept in mind
when we embark on any evangelistic endeavor. Some say, "When in Rome, do
as the Romans do," that would compromise our Christian values. We never
lower our Christian standards; however, we must waive our privileges. Pau said:
"I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its
blessings."
