John 1:29-31 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.”
Jesus,
the Lamb of God, fully paid the sin debt for all humanity. In the Old Testament,
the Priest would slaughter lambs for the sins of the Israelites; Jesus is our
Passover Lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7). During the period before Jesus came, the
yearly feast of the Passover was to celebrate the Children of Israel saved in
Egypt, from the death angel, Jesus is an inimitable Lamb because of who he is.
The lambs sacrificed in the Old Testament were only types; Jesus' sacrifice was
the opposite type; his sacrifice was real. Jesus' sacrifice satisfied all the
requirements from the demands of God (1 Corinthians 5:7; 1 Peter 1:19;
Revelation 5:6). When Jesus suffered and died on the hill of Calvary as the
Lamb of God, He paid the sin penalty of the world. "He took our hell that
we might have His heaven." ( this quote from Dr. Tom Grant). In Temple worship,
the religious leaders used lambs for daily sacrifice. However, they did not
atone for the people's sins; they only prepared for the coming of the true Lamb
of God, Jesus Christ.
Jesus
is an inimitable Lamb because of who he is. The lambs sacrificed in the Old
Testament were only types; Jesus' sacrifice was the opposite of a type; his
sacrifice was real. Furthermore, Jesus' sacrifice satisfied all the
requirements of God's demands (1 Corinthians 5:7; 1 Pater 1:19; Revelation
5:6). When Jesus died as the God's Lamb, he paid the penalty for all sin. The
enormity of Jesus' sacrifice on Calvary is that the sin debt for all that
accepts Him He paid for. He died for everyone that ever drew breath and walked
on God's green earth.
God
works in our lives in a way that is not visible to us as humans. When we see an
iceberg at sea, we see only the tip of the Iceberg; the giant's share of the
Iceberg hides beneath the sea. It is the same with God; we see only the tip of
all the work He does in our lives. God hides most of what He does for us from
our sight. We could not handle the part God chose not to show us. There is coming
a day for all who have accepted Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior to see
all the glory of God.
