Psalms 95:6-7 Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. Today, if only you would hear his voice,
Like many Psalms, the Children of Israel sang this one during
worship. It was most likely used during the Feast of Tabernacles when the
people built temporary housing made of brush and dwelt in them during this
celebration of God leading and feeding them in the wilderness. They would sing
this and other Psalms to remember and celebrate God's guiding hand as He led
them through the wilderness and supplied all their needs. As followers and
believers in Christ today, we don't celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles;
however, it would behoove us to remember where we were when God called us out
of the darkness and brought us into the light.
As the Israelites sang this Psalm, it was to them a call to
worship; it served as a method of the people getting their hearts right with
God to worship appropriately. It helped inspire the people and allowed all to
get their hearts right with God. Inspiration is essential to proper worship;
sadly, much of the worship in this day in age fails because of a lack of
recognition of God, who He is, and what he continues to do for us. Worship is
not always centered around rejoicing; there are times when we worship as we are
going through some deep dark valley. However, even then, we should always fill
our hearts with a song of rejoicing. We do this because God has promised no
matter how deep or dark the valley, we find ourselves traveling through, He
will never leave or forsake us. Our lives may not always turn out as we
imagined; however, God is always there, even on the darkest day. He will never
leave or forsake us. We believe, through faith, there will always be a reason
to rejoice in the Lord.
When we genuinely comprehend the grace God has bestowed upon us,
his children, there is nothing else we can do but bow down or kneel before him
in his splendor and magnificence. God treats us affectionately, like a loving
shepherd who desires to care for all His children. Such grace leads us to bow
and kneel in heartfelt worship. What
a mighty God we serve still;
each one of us is always on his mind. There is an old gospel song that reminds
us of that; it is entitled: "When He Was on the Cross, I Was on His
Mind."
Worship is and has always been a voluntary action. Someone may
lead us in worship; another may even encourage us to worship; however, worship
is and always will be an individual action and choice. For us to engage in
proper worship, there must be a movement inside our hearts and souls that
compels us to love God enough to worship and praise Him with every beat of our
hearts. If something hinders our worship, today is the day to come to Jesus and
ask Him to empty our hearts of anything standing in the way of our worship of
Him.
