Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
God can't lie, so we can fully
trust that what He says he will do will come to pass. God does not engage in
lying or deceit, and His power is incomparable to anything the world has to
place in comparison to it. We can trust God's Word because He is unalterable
and consistent. God's promises to the world will not falter for all that place
their faith and trust in Him. All promises God makes will most certainly find
fulfillment because of His oaths seen as early in the Bible as the
Book of Genesis and running through the Book of Revelation. The blessing God has
promised you and I and all who believe in Him, will come to fruition because of
God's solid promises. Our encouragement comes from God's promises based on an
eternal order, not a temporary mandate.
Faith brings life to hope, an
objective position, not subjective. Our hope in Christ Jesus is a certainty
connected with our faithful expectation that has its foundation in God's
promise. Since we know that God keeps all His promises, we, as His children, can
claim every guarantee found in God's Holy Word.
In Bible days, some cities
were designated as "cities of refuge," if someone unintentionally
took the life of another and they made it to the city of refuge, they would
find protection. We are saved from eternal death through the saving grace of
Jesus on the Cross. We can take refuge in Him by surrendering our lives to Him
and accepting Him as our Lord and Savior. Jesus is our "city of
refuge" because He paid a sinful debt for us that He did not owe and that
we could never pay; he took our place on the Cross. Although there are many
similarities between Jesus and the Cities of Refuge, one crucial distinction
exists. The cities of refuge of old only protected the innocent; The guilty may
come to Jesus and find the sweetest refuge that we can find.
True belief motivates
unfailing hope, even when we are going through trials and tribulations. Abraham
held on to his hope when God promised him that he and Sarah would have a son,
even though nature told him that a 99-year-old man and 90-year-old woman could
never conceive a child. Abraham never wavered in his faith but believed what
God told him would come to pass. He remained thoroughly convinced that what God
promised would come the Pass.
