Psalms 37:7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
Surrendering
to God isn't submissive resignation, defeatism, or an excuse for laziness, and
it's not accepting the status quo. It may mean the opposite of sacrificing ourself
to change what needs to be changed. God only calls surrendered people to battle
on his behalf, so submitting is not for cowards or doormats. We best
demonstrate our surrendering by obedience, saying yes, Lord, to whatever he
asked of us. To say no, Lord, is a contradiction. How can you call Jesus Lord
and refuse to obey him? After a night of failed fishing, Peter demonstrated
absolute surrender when Jesus told him to try again.
Luke
5:15 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t
caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
Surrendered people submit to
God's direction even when it does not make sense, but their rewards are out of
this world. Abraham followed God without understanding where it would take him.
Hannah waited on God's timing without understanding when. Mary looked for a
miracle without knowing how. Joseph put his faith in God's plan without knowing
why circumstances happened the way they did. Each of these people fully
surrendered to God. When will we know we have fully surrendered? When we can
rely on him to work things out instead of trying to manipulate others, force our
agenda, or control the situation. We need only to let go and let God;
we don't have to be in charge.
The
motivation of too many Christians is gratification, carnal forbearance, the
love of money, self-centeredness, dominance, and adulation, to name just a few.
People who live like this count fragments of time, they live with no definitive
direction in view. As Christians, we should live with eternal values in our
vision. God's intention for His children is to amplify the magnificence of the
Lord Jesus Christ to shine brightly in a dark world. Our desire should be to
live our lives so that we might magnify the greatness of our Lord and Savior to
the world around us. If we choose to magnify Jesus, those folks in our sphere
of influence will be drawn to him and embrace him as their Lord and Savior.
People that, in the past have not given any thought to Jesus or their eternal
future will take notice of him. This action on our part will heighten the
world's view of Jesus and cause people to take notice of his saving love, grace,
and mercy.
