Romans 4:20-21 Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.
It is not our faith that propels our lives toward God and
his will for our lives; it is the God of our faith. We will never be able to
glorify God apart from our faith. God will never have a change of mind; we can
always depend on Him. He does not make a promise to the world and then reverses
that promise. God writes every promise in His Holy Word in stone. Contemplative
hope in no way has anything to do with true faith. True faith means taking God
at His word; that is why a daily regimen of Bible Study is critical in our
lives.
Faith is not some vague notion of what God might do in our
lives; genuine Godly faith is holding tight to the promises in God's Word
despite any adverse circumstance that might come our way. Sadly, millions of
saved, born-again followers and believers in Christ Jesus fluctuate between
faith and doubt daily. There are many Christians who, when things are going
great, have great trust in God. On the other hand, when they find themselves
walking through some dark valley, they begin to doubt God. We will all go
through struggles in our faith, sometimes daily, but struggling with faith is
not the same thing as doubting the promises of God. We will all undergo testing
every day of our lives; this testing will prove just how strong our faith in
Christ Jesus is.
Our faith is indeed an assurance in our hearts that the promises of God are genuine and authentic. In other words, we know beyond any doubt that what God has promised in His Holy Word is accurate, and we can always depend on it. We experience salvation not dependent on our faith but because of God's love, mercy, and grace. We, as Christians, can have an assurance in the promises of God not based on any reliance on ourselves or our good works and deeds, but only because Jesus loved us so much that he sacrificed Himself on the Cross of Calvary to pay a sin debt he did not owe. This sin debt was in our account, but we could never pay it. We can have an assurance in the promises of God because it does not depend on anything that we can do, but what God has done for us in Christ Jesus. Faith based on God's character is strong faith; on the other hand, faith in ourselves or anything we can do is weak faith.
Ephesians 3:20 Now to him who is able to do
immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his
power that is at work within us.
