Ephesians 4:14-15 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
Speaking the truth is difficult enough; you mean I must talk to
other people in love. If we ever expect to reach where we truly belong to
Christ Jesus, we must speak to others as He did. Over the centuries, talking to
others in love has been far removed from our context and has become nothing
more than a slogan. Some people don't comprehend that true Christianity is
living our lives in a manner that reflects Christ's love for all we encounter.
The Church, which is the believers and followers of Christ Jesus needs to
learn, digest, and apply truth to our souls and our walk with Jesus.
The Church, the believers,
and followers of Christ Jesus as a whole need to learn, digest, and apply truth to
our souls and walk with Jesus. We measure our spiritual growth by measuring the
distance we grow from childhood to a more mature Christian development.
Undeveloped Christians and churches shatter because they rarely immerse
themselves in God's Word or go from one Sunday to the next and rarely
experience the true Word of God. They exist in a state of spiritual
sluggishness.
In a state of
immaturity, Christians have difficulty drawing on the Word of God for a
particular problem because they do not comprehend or recollect what God's Word
said about a specific condition. Some of these immature Christians may have
been followers of Christ for an extended period; however, there has been
minimal growth in their lives as followers and believers in Christ Jesus. They
never come to where they attain a spiritual enlightenment in their souls. They
have not adopted sufficient principles of God's Word to give configuration to
their souls. They need to implement what doctrines and regulations they have
acquired.
Sadly, today's Church is at the mercy of false doctrinal winds
that blow uncontrollably worldwide. Churches that absorb false teaching become
disconcerted and weakened. Sadly, many churches today do not have the constancy
of sound doctrine that directs their values toward true Christian teachings.
They move away from the truth of Christianity into a human perspective. Satan
lures them towards certain personalities, magnetism, and shallow and
inconsequential doctrine. They fall for celebrity, charisma, and
frivolous teaching. They become vulnerable to false teachers who do almost
anything to take unfair advantage of those who listen to them.
Spiritual Christian
maturity is the growth of an all-inclusive likeness to Christ Jesus. Spiritual
growth is foundational to a knowledge of the Word of God, not on any human
techniques or external methods.
When the Apostle Peter knew his death was impending, he made sure that God’s people became grounded in the truth (2 Pe 1:12-15). We cannot presuppose that our Church will maintain obedience and observance to the truth of God’s Word. The sin capacity will battle against God’s truth. It is the responsibility of all God’s people to assure that our churches remain in the center of the truth of God’s Word.
