Romans 3:3-4 3 What if some were unfaithful? Will their unfaithfulness nullify God’s faithfulness? Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written: “So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.”
Faith is not only vital in the
life of a Christian; it is an essential element in human life. Faith and hope
are necessary for our all-around well-being. The substance of faith, or the
lack thereof, affects us mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
And if there is one thing that the devil wants to destroy in our lives, it is
our faith. Our positive life outlook is critical to circumstances, prospects,
and possibilities. Satan wants to destroy our faith. He wants to tear away at
the fabric of our faith, watching any hope we have completely unravel in our
lives.
We must constantly remind
ourselves that when we have come to a fork in the road, when problems arise or
situations don't turn out like we want, we have a choice. Which side will we
choose? The path of fear will lead to discouragement, depression, and, ultimately,
to destruction. But the path of faith will lead us to development, dependence,
and ultimately to deliverance!
Faith would be unnecessary where
there are no harmful elements. Faith is superfluous in constant success and
prosperity. Faith is needed when we are amid struggles in our soul, where the
natural thing, the easiest thing, to do is throw up our hands and quit! We
don't need faith when everything's okay; we need it when everything seems to be
failing! We need faith when any or every part of our life seems to be falling
apart! Because it is faith that gets us from the struggle to success, from the
battle to the blessing. Faith is only needed amid fiery trials when an endless
array of devilish darts of doubt attacks us. It is then we need the shield of
faith to sustain us!
Faith is unnecessary when there
are no negative pressures in our lives or when we are thriving in persistent
success. When we find ourselves in some struggle in our Christian life, we
surely need faith. Some people speak of having strong faith; however, the
strength of our faith is dependent on and measured by our surrender to Christ
Jesus. There is also strength in numbers; for example, when the man sick with
palsy was let down in a hole in the rook to allow him to be near Jesus, and he
saw their group's faith, He healed the man. Another good example is the woman
with the daughter that Satan possessed. Jesus did not seem concerned about her
situation, but he told her that her faith was great and healed her daughter.
The account of Peter walking on
the water is an excellent example of someone who did step out on faith. He
stepped out of a perfect boat and walked on the water. As long as Peter kept
his eyes on Jesus, he remained afloat, but when he focused on the water instead
of Jesus, he began to go under.
We must remember that even when we can't see a way out of our situation, as bad as it seems, we remember Peter and keep our eyes tightly focused on Jesus. Jesus will reward our faith in him with miracles that we could never even imagine.
