Romans 12:12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
This verse says we should be confident and secure in the future
because God is always in control. We should be unswerving when trials and
tribulations come our way because God is unfailing in His guidance during
mountaintop times and dark valley times. Finally, Paul is teaching us to be
consistent in our prayer life because God wants to hear from His children in
times of plenty and abundance and in times of famine and drought.
When believers and
followers of Christ Jesus meditate on eternity, it brings great Joy and
admiration because we know we will spend it with our Lord and Savior. No matter
our current situation, we can live in great Joy because of what we have in
Christ Jesus. Our hope is different from the hope of the world because our hope
is built solidly on the promises of God. The hope of Christians is a living
hope, and the hope of the world is contingent on one's current surroundings and
circumstances. Our hope is alive because our Savior is alive; we serve a living
God (Romans 8:24; 1 Peter 1:3).
As Children of God, we
have an assured future, a culmination of all Christ Jesus provided us. When we
are home with our Lord and Savior, there will be no more combination of virtue
and wickedness, no more combination of Joy and sorrow; there will only be
constant and consistent joyfulness and delight. Hope is the point on the
horizon that we set our sails towards; it is the foundation and core of our
Joy.
There is no getting out of the tribulations we face in this life. Nevertheless, we can rise above the agony and anguish in those times of trouble because we know that God sees what is ahead, and whatever comes our way, it is for our good and His glory. Sometimes, it is difficult to look up until we are brought down low; this suffering that we might be going through is part of God's plan to promote spiritual growth in His Children (1 Peter 4:19). To be patient in our afflictions is an attitude of the mature Christian that adjust their lives to the tribulation.
A follower and believer in Christ Jesus can withstand significant amounts of stress, and there will be no need for outside stimuli like narcotics, alcohol, or overindulgence in eating. This is because the believer has great confidence and faith in the Holy Spirit's leading, guiding, and direction (Acts 14:22).
The final counsel and urging from the Apostle Paul here in
Romans 12 is a consistent and regular prayer life. We need to keep an open and
uncluttered line of communication with God. A consistent and fervent prayer
life requires much attention on our part (Luke
18:1; Acts
6:4).
Satan will always be lurking around every corner to stop us from a consistent prayer life because he cannot be convincing with his lies and deceptions if we are always in communication with our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. God hears from everyone the same way, and that is prayer. In turn, God speaks to everyone similarly: His Holy Word.
Seven days without prayer
and bible study will make one WEAK.
