Revelation 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Most
people, including myself, find and keep something that is their favorite. For
example, when I find a musical instrument, Guitar, Bass, Mandolin, Dobro,
Fiddle, or keyboard that I like, I will keep it as long as possible. The
instrument may show some age but will remain in my studio. The manufacturers of
things in this world do not mean for their products to last forever; they are
all temporary. The stuff we buy, the things we eat, and even our very own
bodies all wear out. No matter how advanced science and medicine become, they
cannot make the things of this world last forever. But thankfully, our hope is
not in the things of this world!
We
often read the words "Alpha and Omega," Which are the first and last
letters in the Greek alphabet. God is the beginning and the end. In other
words, God was long before you or I existed. God will continue long after we
have passed on from this world. God is not dependent on anything in this world;
he controls everything in heaven and earth. Sadly too many people trust in the
things of this world more than they trust in God. We put our faith in our
retirement plans and savings accounts. Others will trust in their homes, land,
and worldly possessions. But none of these will last forever.
Are
we trusting in things of this life more than we trust in God? If so, our hopes
are temporary things that will let us down. All our hope and trust should be in
the Alpha and Omega, the One unfazed by things in this world. Across the world,
some Christians need encouragement and strength that only God's word can
provide. We focus on helping Christians find encouragement, develop stronger
relationships with God, and help non-Christians accept Jesus Christ as Savior.
Creation's
purpose is to distinguish God's glory in the world. That is God's purpose in
our individual lives. We should make God known to the world for what He is. His
glory is majestic; we should make it majestic to those we know. Jesus is God
Almighty; consequently, He should have autonomy in our lives. We should give
intense attention to this claim of Christ Jesus because it is the reality of
who He is. He can sustain us in any situation.
It
would have been easy for God to have willed to make humans a machine and then
control them by law like the rest of the universe. But God chose the infinitely
more complex task of making humanity free. The cost to God was infinitely
greater by choosing this way, but He had the power to pay that cost and achieve
His purpose. So, God took both roads. He took the easy way of law to control
His creation and the hard way of love to control humanity, and He arrived where
He wills by both routes. That is what omnipotence is all about. It is the power
to get where you want to go regardless of the difficulty of the route you
choose. That is the only kind of power that matters in the long run, and that
is the kind of power the Bible reveals to be the power of Him we will call
forever the Almighty!
