Philippians
2:12
Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence,
but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear
and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order
to fulfill his good purpose.
The Apostle Paul instructs us to work out our salvation, not
work for our salvation. The message Paul is sending us here is for us to allow
our salvation, which is ours through the grace and mercy of God, to work in our
lives. That is the message that Paul is conveying to us. We can work out our
salvation in our daily walk because God is at work in us. God is at work
revealing to His children what He wants us to join Him in. God speaks today! The
words of Isaiah 30:21 (Whether you turn to
the right or the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, this is
the way; walk in it.)
We usually desire that God speak to us by giving us a pleasant
thought that makes us feel good throughout our daily walk. Indeed, there is
some value to this, but if we want the God of the universe to speak to us, we
need to be ready for him to reveal to us what he is doing where we are. God
reveals what he is doing to call us to join Him, and to join Him requires a
willingness to make whatever adjustments are necessary to walk with Him and
participate in his eternal purpose of calling a people unto Himself that will
live in such a way as to bring fulfillment to them and glory to Him. The sad truth
is that there are many in the church today that do not want God speaking to
them. Consequently, there are many Christians that are missing out on the beauty
and glory of hearing from God a daily basis.
When God called Abraham to
follow him, he said, “I will make your name great” (Genesis 12:2). For that to
occur, God had to cultivate Abraham’s character to match his assignment. The
same is true of us. Remember, we cannot stay where we are and go where God
wants us to go! God is concerned with guiding what we are doing because He is
interested in who we are growing into.
When
God speaks, He speaks with a purposefulness. Part of that intention relates to
what He wants to achieve through us. Sadly, there are many people in the Body
of Christ that desires the trill of hearing from God and following His will for
their lives, without experiencing any changes in our lives. One cannot occur
with out the other, we cannot grow into following God and stay in the same
tired rut we are staggering in.
