Bible Verse of the Day Tuesday January 30th, 2024

2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

This verse of Scripture tells us that we have this treasure; what treasure? The knowledge of the glory of God! That is richer than all the earthly treasure any person could possess. What if we owned the entire physical universe? When we die, we will lose it and die a pauper because it’s true: we can’t take it with us. But to know the glory of God, that is eternal riches. And where is this treasure stored? In us! We’re just plain, aging, imperfect, earthbound creatures, but He has entrusted us with the most fabulous riches. Why? Because that is how His power is displayed.

However, our trials and tribulations allow Him to display His power in us. He keeps us from being crushed and encourages us, so we do not despair. He witnesses to our spirits by His Holy Spirit that we are not forsaken. If we are faithful witnesses, if we submit our will to His will let Him use us, then others see these things and marvel that we continue, full of joy, full of God’s love, full of hope, and willing to consider ourselves dead to the world, because we contain within ourselves the life of Christ.

The One who said, “Let there be light,” is manifested in our mortal body by His indwelling Spirit. If the one who spoke creation into existence lives in us, then who or what could come against us? Apart from Jesus, we are in the dark about God, as are all who do not know him. The Christian Faith is not simply one of many different and equally valid ways in which people might come to God. Jesus said quite clearly and plainly, “I am the way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one comes to the Father except by me” (John 14:6).

Now, isn’t that a very exclusive statement to make in this age that has made tolerance of every viewpoint a supreme virtue? Yes, it is, but it is either true or false, and the one who made it is who He claimed to be, the Blessed Son of Almighty God or the greatest deceiver of all time. Jesus told a similar story about the wise and the foolish builders. The wise person built their house on the rock (in obedience to the word of God), and the foolish person built their house on the sand (this person heard the word but did not apply it to their life). And the storms came against both houses, the wise and the foolish builder, but only the wise person’s house stood firm.

Many of the storms that come unexpectedly and sometimes with such fury against our lives are the gracious opportunities God gives us this side of eternity to check the materials with which we are building our lives, make the needed changes, alterations, and renovations, and be better equipped and prepared for the storms that are still to come.
