Matthew
4:10 Jesus
said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the
Lord your God and serve him only. Then the devil left him, and angels came
and attended him.
We
read here in this verse of scripture that Jesus commanded Satan to remove
himself from His sight, and Satan followed that command. Our Lord and Savior
tells us to worship Father God exclusively and turn away from temptation to
worship any other being or power. The reason that most Christians face
difficulty in their walk with God is simply an ignorance of the Word of God. Whenever
God starts to lead us into a closer relationship with Himself Satan will do everything
in his power to veer us off in the opposite direction.
The
goal and aim of all believers' lives should be to please God. Satan wants to
test, try, and seek to devour all those who are pleasing God in any way, at any
level. Jesus lived his life here on this earth to please God. Satan tested
Jesus in the wilderness, and he will test us every day of our lives. The battles
we go through will strengthen us spiritually, as someone once wrote: "New
levels, new devils." When the Word becomes alive
in us, and God imparts revelation in our hearts and minds, Satan will begin to
war with us over the Word of God.
John 1:14 The Word became fresh and made his dwelling among us.
Anytime God's Word becomes flesh in us and becomes a reality, Satan knows we are a step closer to seeing God's glory and seeing a promise fulfilled in our lives. Many battles we find ourselves in are over the same thing. Satan will come and try to force us out of focus, trying to cause the will of God to become fuzzy and unclear so he can get us sidetracked. Satan doesn't want us to get to our God-ordained destiny. He doesn't want to see God's plan for our life materialize and fulfilled. Therefore, he will attack us and try to hinder our progress in accomplishing God's plans. Satan will offer us an alternative to God's will, but we must stand firm and focus on what God has told us to do!
And
so, in that sense, the devil has fought all of us over our praise and worship!
We often withdraw from the physical act of worship for various reasons. But the
number one way Satan does that is by getting us preoccupied and misfocused on
other things. He begins to attack us by making things in this world
appealing and luring us as he tries to lull us to sleep, getting us to focus on
the wrong things, areas, and people. We must maintain our faith,
trust, and commitment to God's Word, His will for our lives, and our worship of
God. If we can remain faithful in those areas, we will go a long way in winning
the war long before it starts, because that is what this war is all about.
