Romans 5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.
Justification, or our right-standing position with God, is
a historical event. Jesus provided justification (or the way to be right with
God) for us on the Cross of Calvary.
Jesus shed His blood and died, taking the penalty for sin upon Himself and
making our justification possible and available to all who accept Him as their
Lord and Savior. Justification, or our right-standing position with God, is a
historical event. Jesus provided justification (or the way to be right with
God) for us on the Cross of Calvary. Jesus shed His blood and died, taking the
penalty for sin upon Himself and making our justification possible and
available to all who accept Him as their Lord and Savior. The heartbeat of each
of us accepted the sacrifice of Christ Jesus on the Cross to redeem our sins.
At that precise moment, we became right with God through our faith in the shed
blood of Christ Jesus on the Cross.
Our justification was complete at that moment. Believers,
each one of us who believe in the atoning work of Christ on the Cross of
Calvary and appropriated that work to ourself through faith, we are every bit
as saved now that as we are at this moment in time as we will be throughout
eternity. The finished work of Christ Jesus is just that, finished. It is not
something Jesus is doing now; it is something he has already done. Consequently,
the Apostle Paul is saying “have been” which is past tense, justified by faith,
we have (present Tense). So, Paul is saying, “Having Been” (past tense)
justified by faith, we have (present tense) peace with God.
There is only one way we can be right with God: to place
our faith and trust in Christ’s death for our sins. We cannot stand right
before God by our works because our efforts do not measure up to the perfect
holiness of God. Christ’s death wipes our slate clean with absolute
forgiveness, and justification declares us as right as God is right forever. Standing
in grace assures us that God’s present attitude towards followers and believers
in Christ is one of approval, seeing us in terms of joy, beauty, and pleasure.
God doesn’t just love us; He likes us because we are in Christ Jesus.
