Luke 15:24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive
again; he was lost and is found.’ So, they began to celebrate.
It is common for some of us who are up in years to lose
something around the house. Then, we drive ourselves crazy until we find it.
Sometimes, we find these things exactly where we remembered leaving them. Other
times, finding what we have lost may take weeks or months. When we find it, we
get excited, tell our significant others, or even celebrate the finding of that
item. When we think about those times in our lives, we can't help but think
about the story of the prodigal son. The father was rejoicing because his lost
son had come home. He may have even thought his son was dead, but he lived! It
was a celebration and a rejoicing for the father because his son, he thought,
was lost, was now safe at home.
Knowing how the story goes often makes us think of what
heaven must be like whenever there is a new believer, those moments when one
who was lost accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We can only imagine the
rejoicing and celebration in heaven when a lost soul accepts Jesus as their
Lord and Savior.
While we often talk about the story of the prodigal son,
this is indeed the story of every believer. Once, we were all lost and away
from the father. One day, the grace of God found us where we were, and we
accepted Jesus. Can you imagine the celebration in heaven? God's Word tells us
that the Angels in heaven celebrate when just one soul comes to Jesus.
Millions of people on earth do not know Christ as their Lord and Savior. As followers and believers in Christ Jesus, we have the message that all lost people need, and we should always be ready and prepared to share that message whenever God gives us the opportunity.
