Zechariah 4:6 So he said to
me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by
might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.
This divine revelation is as applicable in this day and age as it was many years ago. As followers and believers in Christ Jesus, we must all come to the heart's knowledge that God will carry out His plans, which He alone has purposed, "not by might or power, but God's Spirit alone. God did not precisely reveal to Zerubbabel how to carry out His plans and purposes; like us currently, he was following the direction of the spirit of God. The Father had not yet sent the Holy Spirit to indwell in His followers. However, His spirit did come upon certain people during the Old Testament days for God's specific mission for one of His servants.
Nonetheless,
his responsibility, like ours today, is to live by faith in God, trust the Word
of the Lord, and believe all that God has told us. God is working His purpose
out as years turn into years. Consequently, we are not always a party to the
plans that God has proposed in the counsel of His will and way. Nonetheless, we
are His workmanship. We are the spiritual Temple of God that His Holy Spirit is
building together. God does not carry out His work by the cleverness of humans
or the influence of their mighty ministries; God is building us together by the
work of the indwelling Spirit of God. We are the Body of Christ. We are the
Church of God that He is building inaudibly into His eternal residing locality,
treasured stone by treasured stone.
Zerubbabel
faced immense difficulties as he pursued to carry out the work that God had set
beforehand for him to do. Still, God assured him that he would complete the
task that He had set before him, not by might nor by power, but by the Spirit
of God. We, too, face increasing pressures during this day and age, and
sometimes, we also might be tempted to believe that the mission of living by
faith and trusting in our Lord and Savior is overwhelming during a crooked and
perverse generation. Even so, this Word from God is as true for us today as it
was all those many centuries ago, when God, who began a good work in us, will
complete it in the day of Christ Jesus.
Nonetheless, his responsibility, like ours today, is to live by faith in God, trust the Word of the Lord, and believe all that God has told us.
