Genesis 50:20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
The Holy Word of God is filled with valuable instances of
individuals endeavoring to do evil to other people, yet it showed up for good.
In this section, we get the tale of Joseph. His siblings had sold him into
slavery, meaning it was for evil. They figured Joseph would loathe them now
that their dad was dead. They were concerned, yet Joseph knew the whole story.
He realized it was for good.
In the New Testament, they tried to imprison Paul for
preaching the gospel. That didn’t stop the spread of the gospel as they hoped.
Christians have been jailed, put to death, tortured, and punished throughout
history in attempts to stop the cause of Christ. But those attempts have been
unsuccessful. God turned that situation into good!
Evil abounds in our world. Many of us can think back on the
lives of many Christians affected by evil in our day. Maybe they were abused,
mistreated, stricken by sickness, jailed, or found themselves in other
situations. Perhaps it even happened to you. But the bad situation and the evil
of this world is not the story’s final chapter. Through the situations that
arise in this life, God is working well. He uses the people in those situations
and circumstances to prove He is faithful and still God!
Now, in every person's life, there are circumstances over
which we have no control, which give us our problems. We are trapped and must
rely on our doctors. Suicides are increasing every year. Those circumstances
over which you have no control follow you everywhere you go. If I had eyes to
see that which is invisible tonight, I could see in the life of every believer
a problem labeled circumstances over which I have no control. You have prayed
about it but still do not understand why there is no peace or victory. It may
be something that you cannot get out of your mind. You are always thinking about
it, and it is about to get you down.
You may be in one of those situations yourself right now.
Or you know someone who is. Thankfully, that's not the final chapter. God is
doing something good through what is taking place. While we may not see the
good while we are in the middle of the evil, we will see it in the end.
Look at Joseph's circumstances from our Bible verse today, sold by his brothers, kicked out of his house,
separated from his father, taken to a strange land. He was faithful to the home
of Potiphar, falsely accused of having an affair with his wife and imprisoned
for two years. Joseph never lost faith in God, no matter how dark the nights were.
Joseph, a man who had victory over every circumstance, and the reason was very
simple. The way to have victory is to remember that no matter how tough a
situation seems, God is in control. Sometimes, He chooses to place us in a
problem we are uncomfortable with. However, God is not concerned with our
comfort; His primary concern is our spiritual growth. There is an old saying
that some athletes use: No pain, no gain.
